Why this now? Screening and performance

Screening and performance

Doors open at 6.30 p.m. - Starts at 7.00 p.m

The screening of the film series Why this now? will be punctuated by performative elements.

Why this now? is a 27-minute film series shot in its entirety in Geneva. It comprises 4 episodes: FIRE, WATER, EARTH, AIR.

The film features a group of 4 characters in search of something. With a carefree attitude concealing a feverish state, they gather (Fire), run (Water), help each other (Earth) and sink (Air). We follow this tiny human group through the filter of a camera that directs our gaze towards the interactions woven with the materiality of space, as well as the living beings that inhabit and compose it.
The humour that underlies the situations in which these characters evolve and co-create reveals a quest for connection, the tragedy of a fragmented relationship with the world, and the absurdity of certain human behaviours.
The 4 elements are evoked in a subtle, offbeat way, their presence and influence evident in the states of the body, the actions, the rhythm and the camera's point of view.

These four characters emerge from the screen to perform in the flesh on the evening of 8 June.
Exploring the musicality and physicality of the natural elements inside and outside us, they will activate a performative, convivial and interactive device, where spectators are invited to listen to the earth, dive into the air, taste fire and water in a collective experience in resonance with the film, and with a live sound creation.
How are our bodies modified by the elements? (...) We are traversed, animated, energised by unpredictable waves and we live in constant contiguity with other non-human bodies (...). Something of them passes through us every day. Whether we like it or not, the human body is connected beyond its physical limits. "Quand les montagnes dansent", Olivier Remaud

Through her work, choreographer Lucie Eidenbenz invites us to experiment with different ways of inhabiting the earth. She explores inter-species conviviality, hybridity, the plant world with which our lives are intertwined, and the way in which the natural elements manifest themselves in the physical, social and mental dimensions of our lives.
