Lagune Creation

Lagune Creation

The Fluxum Foundation and the Flux Laboratory have presented a special program of cultural events to join in the celebration of the 2016 DADA centenary.

The centerpiece of the celebration is Lagune a work directed by artist Denis Savary, in collaboration with choreographer Jérémy Tran. The performance unfolds around a marionette inspired by the work by Sophie Taeuber-Arp, The Robot King. It is recreated for the occasion and animated by puppeteer Evelyne Villaime. The performance is accompanied by an original soundtrack including sound archives from the AIMP (Archives internationales de musique populaire) from the Geneva Ethnographic Museum.
Lagune reconstructs a city on the water, the imaginary kingdom of the Robot King, either on stage or in an open space. The various facades and walls of the city are mobile, continually moved about by six dancers. The city will appear to be beaten back by an imaginary sea swell arising out of thin air from the dancers’ breaststrokes. We want this production to be as modular and scalable as possible, so it will be performed in varied locations with unexpected settings, adapting itself each time to the site hosting it.

It has been presented first in various institutions in Zurich, the birthplace of Dadaism, at the Swiss Cultural Center in Paris, then in Geneva at Flux Laboratory and the Ethnographic Museum, before heading to Athens, for a final on the rooftop of the National Museum of Contemporary Arts.
