IN RESIDENCY: SYNERGIE COMPANY

“I am about t' sketch You a picture of what goes on around here some- times. though I don't understand too well myself what's really happening.
my poems are written in a rhythm of unpoetic distortion/ divided by pierced ears (…) with a melodic purring line of descriptive
hollowness -- seen at times through dark sunglasses an' other forms of psychic explosion.”

Bob Dylan – Extract of the liner notes of his album Bringing it all back home (1965)

Company Synergie will be in residency at Flux Laboratory from July 1st to 9th to work on their new project: “116th dream”.

“116th dream” is a 25-minute choreographic piece in situ interpreted by 2 dancer-choreographers, Evita Pitara and Cédric Gagneur, and 1 guitarist-composer, Bruno Dias.

"116th dream’s" intention is to convey, with a dance and an original music, the atmosphere of four songs by Bob Dylan – without them ever being played: Motorpsycho Nightmare (1964), Bob Dylan's 115th dream, Subterranean Homesick Blues and Love Minus Zero / No Limit (1965).

All of those songs were influenced by the Beat Generation movement and Surrealism. They reveal a proliferation of tragic, political and cinematographic characters, all mixed up in absurd situations.

How can one incarnate Bob Dylan’s voice in an improvised movement? This study explores the wish to find a common playground through which to reveal each dancer’s individuality and spontaneity. The musical research is based on the rhythmical and melodic reinterpretation of those songs by a solo guitar.

"116th dream" is like a dream to solve, an open door giving on a world of surrealist images and far-fetched characters.
