FORUM : MEETING AROUND VIDEO GAMES
Forum is a conference cycle co-organised by the Creative Tech Tank in Switzerland and Flux Laboratory, which aims to talk about technological innovation in creative industries. After a first event on fashion tech and a second one about new storytelling methods, this third edition will investigate the field of video games.
The video game world had to overcome a general bad press linked to a reductive, and even harmful, view of the field, before being able to gain its badge of honour as an art, and a cultural practice.
Are video games the 10th art form? The debate is open. But it is in any case undeniable that their reach goes far beyond that of entertainment.
To address some of the changes which are happening in this field - artistic, inspiring and yet still sometimes ill-considered - we will welcome the following speakers:
Etienne Mineur, founder of Editions Volumiques, will share new gaming perspectives at the intersection of physical and virtual worlds.
Attila Szanter, cofounder and CEO of MMOS, will come and talk of a new paradigm allowing to connect scientific research to video games and education; or how to convert time spent playing into a scientific contribution.
What if video games could be useful not only to the scientific community, but to the very players as well? This is the research topic of Benoit Bediou, researcher in psychology at the University of Geneva, who will come and talk about the impact of video games on certain cognitive skills.
Alexia Mathieu, in charge of Master Media Design department of HEAD
Douglas Edric Stanley, artist & professor in Media Design of HEAD
To talk about the body and movement, we will have the chance to have dancer, choreographer and game designer JoDee Allen present the work done during her threeweek residency at Flux Laboratory: a dance video game prototype.
The conference will be held in French, apart from Attila Szanter’s intervention which will be in English.
The event will be moderated by co-organiser Laurent Berthelot, founder of the swiss branch of the Creative Tech Tank.
After the conference, all speakers and participants will be able to test different games and devices on site, while continuing to share knowledge and experiences around some treats specifically chosen to accompany the theme.
